AS anyone mounted a separate fuel tank.....gravity fed....by passing the fuel pump? I see several sized aluminum spun tanks on amazon...want to mount on front rack...or behind the seat...with a fuel cut off valve and filter....and eliminate the fuel pump...which seems to be a point of failure for many.

Ya know, that's a question I have myself as well. But I will likely find that out this spring when I get back to a streamlined Reflex project I've got going as part of a bunch of modifications in preparation for a thing called the Scooter Cannonball Run coming in July.
Actually I may have it set up to empty down into the existing tank with the idea of it actually being 2 tanks (each with a shut off going to a "T") with another shut off before the main lower tank. Probably only about 2 gal. each) Similarly, with a vent tube from the main lower tank up to a "T" that goes to the other 2 tanks up higher. And I would be keeping the fuel pump. That way I could run the main tank until almost empty, then open one of the upper tanks and also the lower shut off. Then when that is almost all gone, open the other upper tank and let it drain into the lower tank. After how ever long it takes for it to be done draining, close all the shut offs. All of that all could be done on the fly without stopping. Closing all the shutoffs when the upper tanks are empty will prevent the lower tank from overflowing when filling all the tanks again. That would be about 7 gallons total... should be plenty for long non-stop rides. (or just needing to fill up less than half the number of times one might normally do.)
Alternatively, I could add a "T" before the lower shut off with a short line to another shut off with a line going toward the carb. That way if the fuel pump fails, there would still be the gravity feed from the 2 upper tanks available. But I might also need to put a shut off between the out-put end of the fuel pump and another "T" junction that would pick up from the lower tank/fuel pump and the gravity feed line with the single line to the carb. (to keep fuel from running back into the main lower tank... because I'm not sure if the fuel pump would completely stop fuel from running backward through it.
In theory, that sounds like it would work, but first I would need to see if there were any problems with trying to use gravity feed. (with all that plumbing work, there are more opportunities for potential fuel leaks though.)
If gravity feed works without issue, then I may dispense with the lower tank and fuel pump as you suggest. (and some how utilize that space for something else) I would just need to expand the size of the remote tanks to carry the amount of fuel I want on board. It would obviate the problem of carrying the extra dead weight of a useless fuel pump and tank of unavailable/unusable fuel should the fuel pump fail. Plus less chances for leaks.
I'm liking this idea ^ more and more. Thanks for bringing the idea up. It got me inspired.

Yep, I had already been there at Amazon checking out the different spun aluminum tanks a couple weeks ago. I've been interested in the vertical tanks. Been looking for some with a fuel level gauge and angled fill spout. I'm just not finding quite what I think I need. I see there is a guy here offering custom made tanks; I may check into that. (probably can't be much worse than those spun aluminum tanks) $$$ Yikes!

Hey guys, I did something like this a few years ago and found the fuel pump needed to be plugged in for the GET to start. Theres a bunch of us antifacebook TR refugees at 49ccscoot.proboards.com/ its a very active place for all types of scoots, hope to see you there!
