Okay, I wanted to sound technical or smart, though this will probably be construed as elaborate spam... I figured there wasn't any info in this section, so I would contribute the little bit I know... For those of you who don't read the manual, change your oil at 600 miles or 1000 kilometers. Don't use synthetic, at least for a while, and make sure to only use six-tenths of a quart. Overfilling will reduce your top speed. See, I help. I live to share, share to live, sharing is caring, the more you give the more you're gonna get.

Ill be doing my 600 mile service next weekend! Going to use what the manual recomends for oil, and probably change the air filter and plug just so I can see how things are going in there.
It will be nice to hang in the garge, drink a beer, and work on my Ruckus... Have not worked on a cycle in a while! I can't wait!

Yes, I, the Omnipotent G-Walla, Incan God of Cheese, can attest, I'm the true Tech Guru around these parts. I can technically screw up anything faster than any of you. And technically, my spam tastes as good as treet. Kimi, I can't answer your question right now... but I can tell you to not use 2-stroke oil. That's strickly for Tomos (and other two-strokes)

I brought this up elsewhere, but which is better motorcycle oil or synthetic? I'm always looking for more info Kimi, since I luvs ya, I did a little searching online, and I found this webpage. www.xs11.com/stories/mcnoil94.htmThey do a series of tests to see which oils hold viscosity the best, 3 brands of auto oil (2 synthetic, 1 petroleum), two brands of motorcycle oil (1 petroleum, 1 a petrol/synthetic blend), since the biggest claims to motorcycle oil superiority is that it holds viscosity better than auto oil. And this test proves that theory wrong. Synthetic oils hold viscosity better than petrol oils, but it seemed the three auto oils held better than the two motorcycle oils. zany. See, it's more than spam! It's purposeful spam!

Thanks Kami!
It was a leading question because I had my first tune-up done about a month ago, and I had them use synthetic. Is there synthetic motorcycle oil specifically? Or is it the same used in cars?

I gather from reading that article that there's a synthetic motorcycle oil, but judging from their tests, a car's would do just as good, if not better. And save money.

Ahhhh... taking a break from my oil change right now! Very simple, very easy. I let it warm up for about 10 minutes before starting. I drained it and cleaned the oil screen and plug, and have been letting the last bit of oil drip out of it for the last 30 minutes while I do other crap around here.
If I had a wife, I would be in trouble. Using one of my tuperware bowls for the oil!
Back to my Ruckus!

Well... since i was also painting a bedroom at the same time and didn't want to pain the carpet or windows, i had water.... strtaight... But I'd have to say its at least a two to three beer job. One while you are getting ready, then another while doing it, including a little break to let all the oil drip out, and one during cleanup. Its a good way to kill some time in the morning!
