to all runnin up diablo, just got off the phone with abe. He'll be there with the holy grail ruckus (it's in parts now, but he says it will be ready for the ride). Bad news, the cool coolant tanks won't be here till next week or he would have brought some to hand out. Good news, he want's to hold a tech session, he'll do a cdi install demo, and if you got questions or a part you need help installing he's more than willing to help.
elmo, we'll see what we can do. PM spoonkiller with a phone number so we can get in touch on sat. spoon, is there still a runnin thread at rc? if so post on there that abe will be attending.

Ya - fool, we snuggle under the light of our ruckus, and bathe in the sweet exhaust of love and dignity for ruckus, we comb each others hair after we bath with ruckus, and love Spoon I thought you said you were straight. I'd be a little worried about this one

Cool stuff Smacky!!
Where are we doing the tech demo?? It's gonna be hot as hell after 10:30AM... Nob Hill doesn't have much shade... and I don't know how much attention we'll draw to ourselves if we start taking apart scooters. I'll need to think about this one, I assume a shady tree atop mount diablo won't do since ity would be a long walk back to his truck. Oh and our support vehicle is out, wife changed her mind... she wants to ride the scooter not the truck...women!
The wife and I did the bottom half of the run, and it looks like it should be about a 25-30 mile ride all together. Only one hill scares me and that's on Ygnacio Valley Rd. on the way back, its a 45MPH 3 lanes each way so you guys will have to run cover for us slow mofos. Everything else looks cushy, we'll see how the climb up the devil's back goes, thankfully the speed limit in the park is 25 and under so I won't feel bad when the Ruck slows down to a crawl.
This is gonna be fun!!

spoon did i miss something? Your wife got a scoot?
i was waiting to get an exhaust before i installed the cdi, the air filter and then jetted the carb (all at once). Abe said bring the cdi, it's a really quick and easy install. So i guess we can do it before the ride in the nob hill parking lot.
you forget that my size limits my speed to about that of stock. don't worry about the pace.
if diablo closes we can make a backroad run to Berkeley. our rucks will fit right in with the colorful people that inhabit trelegraph ave. (plus it's cooler on that side of the hill).

Hey I have an even better idea, let's put your CDI in my Ruck!!! no?? well ... #Icon013#
Sounds good, oo you have a route in mind for Berzerkley? Knowing the other two psychos on our crew, 30 miles might be an appetizer for them, they may demand a main course! I'm game for whatever!
So we'll meet around 8 - 8:30 and get your CDI in my your Ruck?
Can't wait!
Oh and no the wife didn't get a scooter yet, as we were talking about the responsibilites of being the support vehicle she got really bummed out about being stuck in the back while we have all the fun... so she doesn't want to go anymore. It's a free country, she can stay home and clean, what do I care... J/K (she is staying home though...and the house better be sparkling when I get home #Icon002# )

spoon, we can put it in your ruck if you like, you just need to replace it with an other one real quick (like a week or so later).
no let's still meet at 9. Abe says it goes in real quick, and i'd like chopchop and robo to be there for the install.
I've biked the route many years ago, i'll get it figured out before sat. yeah, robo and chop will probably want to make that run also. i brought up to abe that that run my be an alternative and he was excited about it. we could get elmo to go if it's after 4.
I gave you a karma point for dissing your wife on this thread. I don't think the "j/k" is enough to stop the wrath of her, you need all the karma you can get.

I get off at 4pm. I work near Nod Hill. How about we meet there and do something else? Like ride up the Devil again. Hey elmo, what do you think of the route?? Do you see any possible pitfalls?? Thanks PS- CALL IN SICK!!!! If I called in sick, I wouldn't have a job! The route looks good, the only problem I see is the ride up the Valley road since is 45mph, but I ride up it alot just have to watch out for people. If you guys can put together another ride after 4pm that would be great!!!!!!!!!! Let me know.

Thanks for the feedback elmo! Yganacio is also the spot that conscerns me a little bit, but I think we'll be cool since it will be Saturday and we'll be in a pack. The cagers tend to behave when they are individually out numbered! PM me your number, that way if we extend the ride until past four we can reach you and bring you into the flock.
Thanks for the offer Smacky, very nice of you! But I wouldn't be able to replace it for a while and that would be just wrong of me to snag that from you! Your ride's gonna be off the hook, it will give the rest of us a good idea of what can be done. 9am's good for me.

My wife gave me the variator as an early present, told her it would make the ride safer! Now I got to try and install in the next couple of hours.... guess if I fuck it up hard enough I'll tow the ruck in the morning and get Abe to help #Icon006#

I saw the battlescooter instructions, but would like to see done from one of us regular guys too! Im thinking of doing the variator or weight changes. May the force be with you!

;D FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK MOTHER FUCKER FUCK!!!!!!!!!! FUCK
Those two fucking bolts are mother fucking pain in the ass!! FUCK
I used a big strap wrench to try and hold the clutch and variator so I could remove those two fucking bolts... and those bastards would not give an inch... I was at that point where you stop caring about whether or not something breaks, as long as you get the fucking bolt off... so I stoped and counted to ten and walked away. Put the cover back on. I'll just have to be a little bit slower for tomorrow, I'll bring the variater, weights and tools just in case Abe knows a quick way of doing it, but I just know that if I kept going I was gonna break something.
SUCKS, wish I had one of them impact wrench thingy-ma-bob

you have tried the rag techinique right? if that doesn't work try the bicycle tube wedged around the pully techique. the impact wrench is obviously the thing you want but you need an air compressor and a burly woodsman with big hairy forearms to hold the bugger. i am talking about what you are talking about right? removing the variator and clutch assembly?

Did someone call for a burly woodsman?? #Icon033# ... well okay I'm not exacty burly, just a bit over weight....oh okay, oh okay I'm not exactly a woodsman but my house does back onto a wood lot....Okay I'm an overweight guy who lives by a couple of trees will that do? What I did, though I suggest this is probably not the best way to do it, was I put one of the cover mounting screws back in one of the holes by the variator. Then I used a a screwdriver and put it between the fins on the variator using the screw as a stop. Taking the variator apart was fine but I did snap the tip off of one fin putting it back together(very little weight lost, I've noticed no vibration). Maybe if you used the rag method to put it back together? Did you get a Driven spirng too for the clutch? If you did you'll have to let us know who you like it!

So what was it like riding w/ the most tricked out and fastest Ruckus in North America? The General's ride is pretty bad ass, but we didn't get to see it in its full glory. The thing was in pieces the night before, he was doing all kinds of tinkering and was still dialing it in during the meet. That said he still easily left us in the dust. The General's Ride:

I started a new thread for pictures hereBetween Smacky and me we've got lots of video, mostly on the road, so we've got to go through that to make a nice little 5 minute short film to share!
